L'hôtel Santa Marta, ouvert en 1991, a toujours été dirigé par C.I.T.O srl., une société promouvant l'amélioration du tourisme dans la région des Champs Phlégréens (Campi Flegrei). Cette zone présentant une nature particulière, est enrichie par un héritage archéologique inestimable.
Le nom de l'hôtel, Santa Marta, rappelle une ancienne "xenodochius" (ou maison pour la réception des pèlerins) du même nom qui s'élevait sur la côte et qui a été détruite par une éruption du Mont Nuovo en 1538.
