Abano is a famous spa centre just a few kilometers from the ancient city of Padua, and has always been an important tourist centre.
It is famous for the salty-bromine-iodic hyper-thermal waters that spring forth from the Montirone Hillock at a temperature above 80°c. The mud that is produced using this water also has thermal properties.
Abano was known as Aponum or Aquae Patavinae in the time of the Romans, who were already aware of the beneficial properties of the spa water.

- If travelling southbound, exit at Terme Euganee (5 km from Abano).
